Should the government announce a unilateral ceasefire?

If the government does this Maoists will have pressure to come for talks or alternatively get exposed in front of the people inside and outside that they are not really fighting for the cause of people but for capturing the power by force.

Yes !It should be done by the government first then Moist too will have to do it.Any how the solution has to come.

Ceasefire for WHAT?

No,Unilateral ceasefire by the government wouldn't halt the war from the maoist side.There should be bilateral agreement for the ceasefire.of course government can slow down its violence towards maoist as a premonition to peace. Moreover I see the U.S. role in Nepal more agressive against peace by funding for government violence, U.S. has done nothing to establish peace in Nepal. what has it done to bring both parties to the table? we don't want Nepal to be Iraq( an example of U.S. failure) History of Maoist warfare in Nepal has shown that they are willing to negotiate. It is the government, which violated the truce agreement. Certainly, Nepal would appreciate international help in establishing peace and security in the nation but not like as it's happening now.

government has responsibility towards nation and people, so they should start the steps towards discussion, they should persue discussion even if maoist donot come.-----------government should announce unilateral ceasefire which will pressure maoist to come under negotiation table, and also make government hero infront of the people.------------------but donot release captured maoist till there is a permanent negotiation

No way I think there is no point for unilateral ceasefire by govt.These maoist must be elimated from Nepal.They are HIVpositive disease for Nepal.The govt should apply policy of "Fight to Finish".

No, not at all. If the govt goes for it then it will be another blunder. Maoist have always seeked for negotiation to re-group themselves, not for the peace. Therefore do not create problem for the army. Army has always paid a heavy price for these dumb-head politician's mistake. Don't test the military paitence. Be noted that when ever maoist have asked for peace talk means they are weak and need a break. Understanding this, push the military operation more aggrassively. I also want to wake up the local population that why are they scared, it is a fight for our survival. When a skinhead maoist shoots in a public place why you can't catch him or run behind him.
